Core Classes

In this monthly class for middle schoolers, students will have the opportunity to expand their musical theatre knowledge.  Each class will be taught by a different industry professional, each of whom brings a unique and exciting perspective. The classes will be show-themed, covering choreography and character work from Mamma Mia, The Greatest Showman, Chicago, and more!  We hope you will stop by Studio Tenn and join us for this amazing exploration of the wonderful world of musical theatre!

Once a month, on Monday nights, Studio Tenn will transform into your favorite drop-in dance studio!  A pay-what-you-can offering, these classes will feature a wide variety of dance styles from Rock of Ages to tap to L.A. dance styles.  We are thrilled to offer this to students from high school through adult.  Teachers and styles vary each month. We can’t wait to dance with you!

INSTRUCTOR: René Copeland
Selecting, preparing, and performing a monologue can be a daunting task for any actor.  This 3 day class intensive will demystify this process and help actors to become more confident and secure in auditions and on stage.  Taught by a true master in this craft, René Copeland, we hope you will join us for this deep dive into the art of monologues.

When it comes to a musical theatre song, there are so many layers to your performance... or at least there should be.  In this 3-day class intensive, Studio Tenn’s own Laura Matula will work with participants on everything from vocal technique to acting beats to selecting the perfect cut for auditions.  This is an amazing opportunity to learn from one of Nashville’s best, in order to fully understand the craft of musical theatre songs.

As actors, it is so important to consistently be honing our craft. In this exciting offering taught by the one and only René Copeland, you will have the opportunity to do just that. Studio Tenn’s School to Stage

Studio Tenn is excited to produce the Tennessee regional premiere of Kate Hamill’s new adaptation of Little Women. Running concurrent with Steel Magnolias, February 13, 14, 18, 19 and 20, the show will be free for schools to attend with an additional two public performances as part of Studio Tenn’s continual efforts to widen theater education and literacy of classic texts. Studio Tenn is honored to have René D. Copeland directing this landmark production continuing to celebrate a season of unforgettable women.

Studio Tenn at MTSU

As Studio Tenn continues its effort to expand its education reach and impact, we are thrilled to be partnering with Middle Tennessee State University. This offering will be open to the Murfreesboro community as well as MTSU students. Studio Tenn will provide industry professionals to lead classes focused on dance and musical theatre skills. Students will learn dance combinations from national tours, local productions, and more. The class will offer the opportunity for students to practice picking up style and steps in an audition-like environment before breaking down the combination and providing technical skills and training.
